Anelia Tsvetkova is NSA Athlete of the Year, Assoc. Prof. Radoslav Penov is Coach of the Year

04 December 2025 On 4 December, during the annual official ceremony “NSA Athlete of the Year”, the most successful athletes from the clubs affiliated with the National Sports Academy “Vasil Levski”, who achieved significant successes in 2025, were honored. The awards were presented by the academic leadership and the Board of Trustees of the NSA, and the host of the ceremony was Prof. Apostol Slavchev, Chairman of the Academy’s Sports Club. In his address, the Rector of the NSA, Prof. Krasimir Petkov, congratulated the student athletes, as well as their lecturers and coaches, who have brought glory to Bulgaria and the Sports Academy with their achievements: “It is very easy to hand out awards at the end of the year. Behind all this, however, there is tremendous effort. I very much wish that everyone in this hall would realize how much effort and personal time these young people have devoted in order to be both successful competitors in the biggest championships and good students. In this respect, the National Sports Academy has a unique character, because it develops great athletes. I thank the award winners, I thank their coaches and lecturers. The results of the survey once again prove that the Academy continues to be a leader in the field of sport in the Republic of Bulgaria,” stated the Rector of the NSA. The athletes’ ranking was topped by Anelia Tsvetkova for winning the vice-champion title at the World Karate Championship (under 20). The second-year student from the Faculty of Sport received the “Athlete of the Year” award from the Rector of the NSA, Prof. Krasimir Petkov, and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Krasimir Dachev, presented her with a check for an annual scholarship in the amount of BGN 2,500, provided by Metal Technology Group AD. Assoc. Prof. Radoslav Penov, Chairman and coach of the karate sports club “Fighters-NSA”, was named Coach of the Year. The distinction, which is the eighth for Assoc. Prof. Penov, was presented by the Rector of the NSA, Prof. Krasimir Petkov, and the Chairman of the Association for University Sports, Assoc. Prof. Petar Zografov. In his presentation, Prof. Apostol Slavchev recalled the most significant sporting achievements of the students of the NSA “Vasil Levski” for 2025. In the student competitions organized by AUS “Akademik” and NPSS, NSA students began the year by participating in the University Winter Games in Pamporovo, where they won the team cup in the overall standings, winning a total of 27 medals (13 gold, 10 silver, and 4 bronze). In May, at the student Universiade in Stara Zagora, the NSA team won the overall cup with a total of 130 medals (66 gold, 36 silver, and 28 bronze). In the autumn of 2025, during their participation in the Summer University organized by NPSS in Kiten, the students of the Sports Academy won first place in the overall standings. During the current year as well, elite athletes who are students at the NSA proved their class on the international sports stage. At world championships, they won a total of 16 medals for Bulgaria, including 4 gold, 11 silver, and 1 bronze. At European competitions, NSA students won 16 medals – 10 gold, 5 silver, and 1 bronze. In the top 10 of the best athletes from the clubs affiliated with the NSA “Vasil Levski”, the following also deserved their place:
