The Ministers of Education and Science and of Youth and Sports participated in the opening of renovated educational and sports infrastructure at NSA

Today, October 23, the National Sports Academy held the official opening of renovated educational and sports facilities – student dormitory block 61 and the football and rugby field, refurbished with financial support from the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Alongside Rector Prof. Krassimir Petkov and the academic leadership, the event was attended by both ministers – Krassimir Valchev and Ivan Peshev, Deputy Ministers of Youth and Sports Assoc. Prof. Stoyan Andonov and Dimitar Georgiev, the Chair of the Higher Education and Science Federation of CITUB Prof. Lilyana Valcheva, and Daniel Parushev, under whose term as President of the National Representation of Student Councils (NRSC) the renovation activities began.

Student dormitory block 61 (entrances B, C, and D, managed by the NSA „Vasil Levski“) has been completely renovated under a decree project of the Council of Ministers, financed by the Ministry of Education and Science and co-financed by the NSA. Implemented measures for energy efficiency, major renovation, and furnishing of a total of 430 rooms will improve the living conditions of about one thousand students.

Rector Prof. Krassimir Petkov expressed gratitude to the state institutions, NRSC, and social partners for their united efforts leading to the successful completion of the projects and tangible improvements in the living and learning environment for students. Prof. Petkov also expressed appreciation to the former leadership and staff of the NSA for their contribution. The Rector announced the ongoing complete renovation of student dormitory block 70 on the NSA campus, which is progressing as planned and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The project is again being carried out under a decree of the Council of Ministers.

„I am glad that together we achieved what you see today. I thank the leaderships of the National Sports Academy and the National Representation of Student Councils, as well as CITUB, for their continuity and cooperation,“ said Minister of Education and Science Krassimir Valchev. He wished good health and success to the students who will benefit from the renovated facilities.

At the opening of the football and rugby field, the official guests were welcomed by lecturers and students from the representative football team of NSA. Impressed by the students’ demonstrated skills, the guests even joined in a penalty shootout. 

„Without the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and without our persistence, this project would not have happened. I thank everyone involved in its realization – the academic leadership, the Department of Administrative and Operational Activities, and the students,“ shared NSA Rector Prof. Krassimir Petkov.

„Today’s event makes me feel proud because when institutions manage to join hands and work in partnership, facilities like this become possible. And only with such facilities can our students prepare in the best possible way,“ said Minister of Youth and Sports Ivan Peshev.

The modernized football and rugby field will provide significantly improved conditions for students and athletes. The project was implemented with financial support under Regulation No. 1/2023 of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and co-financing from NSA. A completely new irrigation system has been installed, along with a lightning protection system and functional equipment.
