Lyubomira Kazanova presented her Olympic medal to the Educational and Olympic Center at the National Sports Academy "Vasil Levski." The rhythmic gymnastics competitor was part of the ensemble that won bronze at the Rio Games in 2016.

The ceremony took place during a session with students. Rector Prof. Krasimir Petkov stated that the medal is yet another extremely valuable trophy entering the center. It will be placed next to the bronze medal of Milko Kazanov – Lyubomira’s father, who won it together with Andriyan Dushev in a kayak double at the Atlanta Games in 1996 and also donated his medal to NSA. Milko and Lyubomira are the only father-daughter duo in Bulgarian sports who hold Olympic trophies.

Assistant Rector Prof. Nikolay Izov shared with students how challenging, yet important, it was to establish the Educational and Olympic Center. He also spoke about how valuable it is in teaching young people to respect the history and enduring values of sports.

At the end of the ceremony, Prof. Petkov presented an archival fencing saber, donated a few days earlier by Assoc. Prof. Boris Marinov – a long-time instructor in the Department of Physical Education Theory. The weapon dates back to the early 1950s and was used in student training at VIF.
