| Published on 07 August 2024 European champion and world vice-champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, Kiril Milov (a third-year student at the National Sports Academy "Vasil Levski"), lost in the repechage in Paris and, unfortunately, will not compete for the bronze Olympic medal. Milov, who traditionally competes in the 97 kg category, had to wrestle in the heavier class of up to 130 kg after Bulgaria received an additional quota at the last moment due to the withdrawal of Russian and Belarusian wrestlers. In the repechage, Milov faced Abdelatif Mohamed (Egypt), who was third at the 2023 World Championship and a seven-time African champion. At the beginning of the match, Kiril Milov managed to take a 4-1 lead with perfect wrestling. Unfortunately, the much larger and heavier Mohamed turned the tide and won the match. “You should never make excuses. Even with 25 kg less than them, I see that I can still compete at a very good level. But this mistake cost me the small final. That’s the truth of big sports; whoever makes a mistake loses,” stated the Bulgarian wrestler. Photo: startphoto.bg |
