| Published on 05 August 2024 The student of the National Sports Academy, Svetlana Staneva, finished her participation in the Olympic boxing tournament with great disappointment. She reached the quarterfinals after defeating Irish fighter Michaela Walsh, only to face the widely discussed Yu Tin Lin (Taipei), who was disqualified due to a failed gender test at last year's World Championship. In the unequal match, the victory was controversially awarded by the referees, and Svetlana expressed her protest to the entire hall by raising her crossed fingers, showing her stance on the situation at the boxing tournament in Paris. "I have XX chromosomes; I am a woman!" she explained her gesture. Svetlana was supported in the hall by the president of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee, Stefka Kostadinova, the president of the Bulgarian Boxing Federation, Krasimir Ininski, and the general secretary of the BOC, Belcho Goranov. "Hats off to Svetlana Kameneva! Svetlana Kameneva left her heart in the ring in Paris. Our European champion gave her all in an unfair fight against Taiwan's representative Lin Yu-Ting. And although she was clearly the better fighter in the ring, she had to accept the decision—finishing fifth in the 57-kilogram category at the Olympic Games. Our girl threw herself into the fight from the very first second, landing several very accurate hits. Her struggle with her opponent continued, as she did not back down for a second, despite provocations from the other side. Unfortunately, it seems the referees had decided otherwise, and despite her fantastic performance, Kameneva did not receive support from the judges," stated the Bulgarian Boxing Federation. *Photo: BOC, Yordan Petkov* |
